With the coronavirus pandemic surging, Americans are looking forward to a day when a preventative vaccine is available. But who will pay for it?
Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the vaccine itself will be paid for by the U.S. government, but the administration of the vaccine will be paid for by a health insurance plan or policy. In fact, the proposed interim final rule requires that most plans cover the administration of the vaccine without cost sharing. The rule is open for comment.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have also issued guidance.
