As expected, based on new guidance from the federal government about the Affordable Care Act (ACA, health care reform law), Anthem BCBS will allow their Individual Members and Small Group employers (50 or fewer eligible employees) who have not moved to an ACA-compatible plan to keep their current health plans (and network of doctors) for another year. Anthem will extend this offer to Individual members with renewals starting July 1. For Small Groups, the offer starts with renewals on October 1. If you are an Anthem client and choose to stay on your current plan, you may experience a rate increase at renewal (…almost a guarantee!).
Please stay tuned for information regarding other carriers (UnitedHealthcare and Coventry) as we anticipate that they will announce similar opportunities for their “small group” employers.
