Important Update: MU Health Care Now Out-of-Network with Anthem

Quick Facts:
- Effective April 1, 2025, MU Health Care is now out of network for all Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial (including HealthLink) and Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans. This impacts all MU Health Care physicians, advanced practice providers, clinics, and hospitals.
- Negotiations between Anthem and MU Health Care continue, and we remain hopeful for a resolution.
- Patients may experience higher out-of-pocket costs using MU Health as an out-of-network provider or may need to select alternative in-network providers.
- Mizzou Pharmacy remains in-network for all Anthem plans.
- Medically necessary emergency care at MU Health Care will continue to be covered at in-network rates.

- Emergency care remains covered: Emergency services at MU Health Care remain covered at in-network rates according to your policy terms.
- Finding In-Network Providers: Anthem offers the Sydney Health Mobile App and anthem.com to help you easily find alternative in-network providers. You can also contact anthem using the phone number on the back of your ID card for assistance with locating an in-network provider. Local in-network options include:
- Boone Hospital and Physicians
- SSM St. Mary’s Hospital and Physicians (Jefferson City)
- Jefferson City Medical Group (JCMG)
- Moberly Regional Hospital
- Columbia Orthopaedic Group
- Tiger Pediatrics
- and many others.
- Use of Out-of-Network Benefits: If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may still access MU Health Care, but costs may be significantly higher.
- Continuity of Care: If you or your dependents are receiving ongoing treatment from MU Health for certain conditions, Anthem may approve continuation of in-network benefits temporarily.
- Examples of conditions eligible for Continuity of Care include:
- Pregnancy
- Serious or complex conditions like cancer, currently undergoing treatment
- Relapsed cancer with ongoing chemotherapy, radiation, or reconstruction
- Transplant candidates or recipients needing ongoing care due to complications
- Recent or scheduled non-elective surgeries (acute phase and post-operative care)
- Serious acute conditions (e.g., heart attack or stroke)
- Acute conditions requiring specialized treatment to avoid permanent harm
- Life-threatening, degenerative, disabling, or congenital chronic conditions requiring prolonged specialized care
- Terminal illness
